Computational Materials Mr. Donghwa Lee is an accomplished computational materials scientist and academic leader whose career is dedicated to advancing predictive materials design through theory, simulation, and machine learning. Mr. Donghwa Lee earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida under the supervision of Prof. Simon R. Phillpot, following his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Korea University, establishing a strong foundation in both fundamental and applied materials science. Mr. Donghwa Lee is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), where he leads efforts to build a highly visible computational materials science group, and he has also served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. His professional experience includes prior faculty appointments at POSTECH and Chonnam National University, as well as prestigious postdoctoral research positions at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where Mr. Donghwa Lee contributed to cutting-edge research in materials theory and quantum simulations. Mr. Donghwa Lee’s research interests center on understanding physical and chemical processes at material interfaces using multiscale Computational Materials approaches, including classical molecular dynamics, model Hamiltonians, density functional theory, and many-body first-principles methods, integrated with machine-learning techniques for predictive engineering. His research skills span electronic structure calculations, multiscale modeling, data-driven materials discovery, and high-performance scientific computing. Mr. Donghwa Lee’s awards and honors include the Il-Bum Chaired Professorship at POSTECH and appointments to editorial and advisory boards of leading journals such as Metals and Materials International and the Journal of Applied Physics, reflecting his international recognition.
