Dr. Sang Hyeok Kang obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering & Management) from Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea, in August 2009. His dissertation, titled “Development of GIS-Based Haul Route Planning Methodology for Earthwork,” focused on creating a geographic information system (GIS)-based approach to optimize haul route planning and decision-making for earthwork projects. Prior to his Ph.D., Dr. Kang earned an M.S. in Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering & Management) from the same university in February 2005. His thesis, “Integration of Design and Construction Information Using GIS,” explored methods to integrate design and construction data to improve planning efficiency and scheduling accuracy in civil engineering projects. He completed his undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering at Hanyang University, graduating in February 2003.

Dr. Kang has extensive research experience across several renowned institutions. At Incheon National University, he focuses on geographic information system-based evaluation methods for accessibility of social infrastructure facilities, unmanned aerial vehicle and image processing applications to construction site monitoring, and remote collaboration using mixed reality. He also served as a Research Scholar at the Safe Transportation Research & Education Center, UC Berkeley, and as a Research Fellow at the Construction & Economy Research Institute of Korea (CERIK).
