Dr. Jhon Faber Marulanda Lopez | Entomology | Best Researcher Award

Dr. Jhon Faber Marulanda Lopez | Entomology | Researcher at Embrujo Cafe Biotechnology Research Center – CIBEC | Colombia

Dr. Jhon Faber Marulanda Lopez is a distinguished biologist and entomologist whose research bridges evolutionary biology, taxonomy, and chemical ecology, with a strong focus on Ephemeroptera systematics and biodiversity in Neotropical regions. He earned his Doctorate in Entomology from Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), Brazil, where his work centered on the phylogenetic classification and species identification of the genus Americabaetis using morphological and machine learning approaches. Prior to this, Dr. Marulanda Lopez completed his Master’s in Entomology at UFV, focusing on the systematics of Terpidinae (Ephemeroptera: Leptophlebiidae), and earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Universidad de Caldas, Colombia. His academic journey has been complemented by numerous specialized training programs in morphological analysis, geometric morphometry, and functional landscape connectivity. Professionally, Dr. Marulanda Lopez has served as a Researcher at the Centro de Investigación en Biotecnología Embrujo Specialty Coffee (CIBEC), where he contributes to biotechnological applications in coffee fermentation, soil microbiome analysis, and environmental recovery techniques. His research interests include insect systematics, evolutionary taxonomy, biodiversity assessment, and the integration of artificial intelligence into biological classification. He demonstrates strong research skills in morphological taxonomy, microscopy, statistical ecology, and data analysis through computational models. His work has been published in prominent journals such as Neotropical Entomology, Zootaxa, and Zoologischer Anzeiger, reflecting his international recognition within the entomological community. Among his academic honors are the “Honra al Mérito” by UFV, “Reconocimiento Especial” by Centro Agropecuario de Buga, and “Mención de Honor” from INEM Colombia, recognizing his excellence in scientific research and contribution to environmental sciences. Dr. Jhon Faber Marulanda Lopez continues to advance the frontiers of entomological research through innovation, collaboration, and dedication to biodiversity conservation and sustainable biotechnological development.
