Professor Salman Abdul Ghafoor is a distinguished researcher in Optical Communication Systems, Electronics, and Telecommunications. Currently, he serves as the Head of the Telecommunication Institute at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, Pakistan. His contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous awards and patents.

Education 

Professor Ghafoor holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK, where he specialized in Optoelectronics. He earned his MSc in Electronic Communications and Computer Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK, and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan. His academic journey began with a Foundation of Sciences in Pre-Engineering from PAF College Sargodha, Pakistan.

Experience   

Professor Ghafoor has extensive experience in academia and industry. He worked as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Tech Assistant at the University of Southampton. Since 2012, he has been a faculty member at NUST, where he has taken on various administrative roles, including Head of Department and Member of the Washington Accord Accreditation Committee. He also has significant experience coordinating final year design projects and managing the Optical Networking Technologies laboratory.

Research Interests

His research focuses on Optical Communication Systems, Fiber Optic Communication, Photonics Networks, and Microwave Photonics. He has a keen interest in developing innovative solutions for next-generation communication networks, including free space optical communications and secure data transmission methods.

Professor Ghafoor has received several prestigious awards, including the Distinction in MSc studies at the University of Nottingham, the Presidential Award for the best student of the year at UET Peshawar, and the IEEE Best Project Award for his Bachelor of Science Final Year Project.
